It gives me great pleasure, on behalf of the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN)’s National Officer’s Committee (NOC),
to bring this message of hope to all our members all over the country.
Christmas provides a unique opportunity to spend quality time with family, friends and loved ones.
It is a time for us to be thankful for the progress we have made in the year, irrespective of the challenges we have faced as individuals and as an Association.
It is also an auspicious time for sober reflection, as we remember the numerous challenges facing the health sector and the sad loss of some of our colleagues
who paid the ultimate price in the course of their duties. May their souls rest in everlasting peace.
To say the times are hard is an understatement. However, all around us are people having it more difficult than one can imagine. While we hope and pray for better times ahead, let us, through different acts of charity, share the joy of Christmas to those around us going through particularly more difficult times. Gifts and visits to homes for the less privileged, visits and prayers for the sick, adoption and feeding of street children, provision of specialist services as volunteers in Medical Missions are but a few of many acts of charity we should consider in this season of goodwill.
While some lucky ones amongst us will be home enjoying Christmas cheer with family and friends, let us have in our minds and keep in our prayers, majority of our members and other health workers who will be working through the Christmas and New Year holidays to attend to the health needs of Nigerians.
May the Lord protect these colleagues from the risks of the fourth wave of COVID-19 pandemic and other deadly infectious diseases.
